Huayhuash Treks: 4, 8 & 10 Days

My daughter and I completed the 10-day Huayhuash Trek in July, and it was undoubtedly one of the most memorable adventures of our lives. From the very first contact until the end of the trek, Waroma Eco Tours Peru proved to be exceptionally professional, reliable, and well-organized. Everything ran smoothly, allowing us to fully enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of the Peruvian Andes. This agency offers excellent service! We did the 6-day trek in the Huayhuash Range and had a wonderful experience; the team—Luis (guide), Isidro (cook), and Maximo (wrangler)—treated us very well, and we always felt safe. We cannot recommend Waroma Eco tours highly enough! As two women in their 20s, we were keen to find a smaller, more personal company for the Huayhuash trek. From the beginning, Angel’s communication was superb. On the trek itself, Michael and Ronaldo were professional, kind and extremely patient. The food was outstanding (we loved the pancakes, afternoon teatime churros and lots of traditional Peruvian delights). The logistics were incredibly smooth, with Waroma making camping and equipment as easy as possible. On a more general note, the 8 day trek had surreal views and was a good level of challenge. Very doable if you are used to trekking, with decent fitness level and comfortable at altitude.

Nuestro arriero Graciano se ocupó de reservarnos los mejores sitios de los campamentos y nos tuvo montadas las carpas para que pudiéramos descansar a nuestra llegada. Muy recomendable

Una experiencia guapisima. El equipo de waroma estuvo todo el tiempo pendientes de que todo saliera bien, y así fue. Wiky nuestro guia, un crack, siempre pendiente de que estuvieramos a gusto. Angel tanto antes como despues del treking siempre dispuesto a ayudar en lo posible. Mila esker a todo el equipo!!!

J’ai fait Huayhash sur 8 jours. Le matériel (tente, matelas, sac de couchage) sont de très bonne qualité. Le guide superbe et que dire de la cuisine, nous nous sommes régalés à chaque repas (même au tea time). Bref tout était parfait, vraiment un rapport qualité prix superbe je ne peux que recommander, ce fut une superbe expérience. De plus, j’avais beaucoup de questions sur le trek, les réponses étaient instantanées et d’une gentillesse incroyable. Ca fait plaisir de dépenser des sous pour ce genre de prestations et de personnes :)

I did the 5 day trek in the Cordillera Huayhuash, and it was a great experience. Our guide, Michael, was knowledgeable, confident and very amicable. He, and the rest of the team, managed to walk a tightrope of letting different people walk at their own pace, while at the same time keeping the group together and leading by us through the mountains safely. Donkey riders helped set up the camps and took weight off of our backs during the hikes, and The tents and sleeping bags we got were in great shape. We ate three meals a day, along with having soup and tea available to us every night. For me, it was as close to luxury as you can get while hiking in the mountains. Highly recommend!

We are a couple 63+59 years old that had a private 8 days HuayHuash trek. Angel was amazing is setting and preparing everything. Michael our guide treated us like a king and a queen. He was knowledgeable, took care of all the small details and an amazing chef. The trek itself is amazing with unique views and wild life. We will remember this experience for our entire life as one of the most unique. Thanks you Angel, Michael and Waroma Eco tours!!!

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would - I am so glad and happy that I picked Waroma to do 8 days of Huayhuash. Angel answered all of my questions when I spoke to him in the office, and he was a delight to chat with otherwise, has very good English. Michel, my guide, was great, and you can tell he's experienced; beyond knowing exactly where the paths are and pacing well most of the time for the entire group, tips like putting a hot water bottle in the sleeping bag to be warmer at night and wearing plastic bags because shoes got wet truly show experience. He also asked for feedback, and both Angel and Michel continuously try to improve and do what they can for their clients. The distinguishing factor of this tour agency is that it feels personal - Angel seemed to know the names of everyone in my group, and Michel talked to and got to know everyone during the hike. It made the entire trek much more enjoyable, and I had a great time chatting with him, learned a ton about Peruvian life, culture, and history from him which is immensely valuable to me (and he was very patient with my work-in-progress Spanish). Everything was planned very well, and Michel, our chef (Agosto), and donkey driver (Ronald) all worked together splendidly. Once we got to camp every day, tents and sleeping mats would always be set up already and belongings always arrived safely. Equipment kept me warm, we were given blankets to put into the sleeping bag, and sleeping bags were quite spacious. Agosto made sure we had plenty to eat and whenever we would have lunch at camp, lunch would be ready shortly after we arrived. If we had lunch on the road, Agosto prepared food beforehand and carried it to feed us - I was also so surprised when Michel whipped out the thermos so we could have tea in the mountains, wow. We generally had an overabundance of food, and I felt like we were constantly eating: breakfast, then given a snack with fruit / sweet crackers / salty crackers for the road, lunch, tea time which always included a snack too, and dinner with soup and a main dish. We were always asked if we wanted more food during lunch and dinner, and we almost always had extra food leftover. After Huayhuash, I asked Angel for information about other hikes, was always willing to help. A week ago we've finished the 8 days Huayhuash trek, and I want to recommend with all my heart Waroma eco tours and the guide Michael. It was very well organised - each day when we arrived to the camp site the tents were already prepared for us. Each day we got wonderful meals, and in between we got snacks and tea time. Michael speaks English, and he has a lot of guiding experience. He is very kind and lovely- he gives attention to every person in the group and tries to answer his needs. It's not an easy trek, but it's so beautiful that words can't even describe it. It is also a great adventure, and I was lucky to do it with Michael.

We just finished the 10-day Huayhuash trek with Waroma Tours and it was an amazing experience from beginning to end. We did the tour just two of us, plus Michael (who doubled up as guide and cook) and Nimer (who handled the donkeys and mules, and set up camp). Our guide, Michael, was incredibly capable, warm, and knowledgeable about the mountains. He flexibly adapted our route along the way based on how we were feeling (for example, adding in extra detours to see the San Antonio view which was breathtaking, and including a rest day where we went swimming / fishing at an idyllic glacial lake). We felt incredibly well taken care of the entire time. We were also glad we chose to do the 10 day trek rather than 8 days, because it meant we got to stay at a natural hot spring one of the days, as well as have time for the additional detours mentioned. On top of being an expert guide, Michael is a phenomenal cook. I’m vegetarian so wasn’t sure what to expect but Michael made me a separate vegetarian meal every meal (always with a proper protein like tofu or egg), which was always delicious (bolognese and stuffed peppers were highlights). We had three fresh cooked meals every day (usually three courses for dinner!), which blew us away considering we were in the middle of the Andes. Our mule handler, Nimer, was also fantastic—super reliable, warm and funny, and always had our camp set up in the best spots at the campsites. We really appreciated how smoothly everything ran behind the scenes thanks to him. Angel, who organized the tour, is a lovely person, super easy to communicate with from the start, and very passionate about what he does. The day after the trek finished, he even gave us a lift from our hostel to the bus stop, which was a huge help. If you’re thinking about doing the Huayhuash Circuit and want to go with a small, local company that is knowledgeable, reliable and cares deeply about what they do, we can’t recommend Waroma Tours enough.

At the beginning of November, I went hiking in the Huayhuash Range in Peru with three friends. It was one of the best and most challenging hikes of my life. Without the help of the entire Waroma team, I wouldn’t have made it. I’m very grateful to Angel and his brother Michael. I highly recommend Waroma Eco Tours.

On August 14, I finished the 8 days Huayhuash trek with Waroma Eco Tours Peru, and I’m really happy with the experience! From the start, the team was very professional and paid attention to every detail. They made sure everything went smoothly. The guides, Maycol and Ronaldo, knew a lot about the area, the culture, and the environment, and their love for the Huayhuash mountains made the trip even better. They were also very considerate of the group, adjusting the pace and giving tips to help us get used to the altitude and enjoy the trek. The camping gear was excellent, and the food was much better than expected — fresh, healthy, and just what we needed to keep our energy up in the tough conditions. I was especially impressed by their eco-friendly approach, reducing our impact on the environment while still making sure we had a great time. Angel’s(the owner) planning, knowledge, and focus on responsible tourism really make Waroma Eco Tours Peru special. If you’re thinking about doing the Huayhuash trek, I highly recommend choosing them for an amazing and sustainable adventure!

We did the 5-day Huayhuash and had a terrific time. The trek was well-organized, the food was excellent, the camping gear was good and Maikel and Cilicio were great about separating the group as needed when people wanted to tackle different routes. Be prepared for cold, early mornings and some tough climbs but the scenery is spectacular, truly a bucket list trek.

Esteban was a great guide and cook, and Yoner was a great donkey driver and sous chef! The scenery was amazing and we had a great time. It was cold though! Make sure you are well prepared for the cold weather and altitude.

I arrived as a solo traveler, much older than the other travelers. I received excellent preparation for the departure. The staff worked great, took care of us and made it easy even when it was cold and hard. Set up and unpacked the tents, distributed hot tea in the morning. The cook Mary prepared satisfying and delicious meals. The guide Emerson, excellent, speaks excellent English, a professional in the mountains, was always attentive to me and made sure I was okay, I felt safe in the mountains thanks to him and thanks to the assistant guide Elmer. Highly recommend

Amazing experience, Michael Angel and Ronaldo are amazing people. The food was at a high level, the whole organization of the trip was at a high level. The guides' explanations were excellent, the guides took us to all kinds of places that other groups didn't get to (such as the glacier, the alpine route on the second day, Pass San Antonio and Pass Santa Rosa, entered with us the lagoon that is close to Pass Santa Rosa and Pass Rondoy on the last day) and in general made the trip an experience perfect

Did a five-day tour in Huayhuash with four other travellers. We had an amazing experience with Waroma. Angel is very kind and knowledgeable, after meeting him we were very interested to do the tour with his company. Angel’s brother Michael was our guide and was excellent, despite having done the circuit many times he was still very excited to show us all the beautiful sights along the route. We really liked his laid-back but thoughtful approach. Both Angel and Michael speak good English. Every day we had a lot of excellent food (including good vegetarian options), and the equipment was very good quality. Would highly recommend this agency. PS one warning: even with good equipment it is very very cold at night! Definitely bring extra gear for cold weather (e.g. parka, hot water bottle, hand warmers).

My sister and I had the best time a Huayhuash. Angel organized everything, Michael was our guide and Ivan was our donkey driver. We received VIP treatment throughout. We ate so much, and Michael took us to several off the trail view points, he was also our photographer/videographer.

Huayhuash is absolutely amazing and I wouldn't want to go with any other agency! Angel and his team are the best, they really enjoy and care about what they do. You feel like a little family on a big adventure! I can't recommend these guys enough, they will bend over backwards to make sure your trip is amazing and you'll laugh all the way ✨

My partner and I did the 10-day huayhuash trek in June with Waroma. Angel was great from the start organising the trip to suite what we were looking for. He made some good route modification suggestions that made the trip much more enjoyable overall. The meals and equipment provided were excellent and the guide was able to make adjustments to make the meals vegetarian for my partner. I'd highly recommend going with Waroma if you're interested in a more unique treking experience.

I've been to Huaraz 4 times over the years to experience different mountain adventures & I can say that Angel & his brother Michel & the team are the most genuine & caring guys I've encountered. Highly recommending this tour operator! We had our best time when we went on an 8 days trek through the Cordillera Huayhuash. Our tour guide Mayquel, our chef Gabriel and our donkey driver Leo were a young and dynamic team with a lot of passion for the mountains and for what they do. They were very responsible, had so much positive energy and every day was so much fun ! The service was excellent, all of them were extremely attentive and taking so good care of us, they really wanted us to have the best time and to feel comfortable in every single second. The food was very delicious, there was a great variance and the portions were huge! We were sometimes eating better food than we had outside of this trek ;) You get hot water bowls twice a day to refresh or wash yourself, which was quite nice. We got a lot of explanations and interesting insights about the mountains and environment of the national parc. Every evening we got a very detailed briefing of options for the next day, since there sometimes were longer/more difficult or shorter/easier routes or extra routes for more viewpoints, which we could decide on. All the gear and equipment was in very good condition, the sleeping bags very warm, etc. I also want to mention Angel, the manager of this company. He was spending a lot of time with us in advance of this great adventure to explain us every single detail about this trek, which options we have, what’s recommended, how to prepare ourselves, .. and answered every question. From the minute we met Angel at the agency we knew he is the best. So nice, welcoming, and trust worthy. The trek was really great and especially our team including Michael the guide, Roni the assistant, Martin the cook and the family that handled the camp. All very very nice and invested in making the experience the best for us. Truly, I didn't even expect half of it. Also Michael helped me a lot during the trekking with great attitude and patience. This is not obvious at all, he is really a great guide. So all in all everything was really amazing, im sure it wouldn't be the same with a different team.

I contacted Angel a few month ago with a request to to the Huayhuash Alpine route in eight days. I told him I’ll be visiting Peru with my two boys and that we are a very experienced hikers. Angel was a bit skeptic but said that once we’ll arrive we’ll work on the trek together. As we arrived to Huaraz he helped us to acclimate by offering a few day hikes. After 3 days we went to the Huayhuash with Michael. The first day was planned to be a 10k hike which we finished in about 4 hours and decided in the spot to continue to the next campsite. Michael was very cool and allowed the change on the spot. In the evening we tailored the next five days with the understanding that some days might need to be changed according to the ice conditions. We had an AMAZING time with Michael, Louis ( the donkey driver) and the local people. Michael has a great talent to connect with everyone and to build the hike to each person needs. I strongly recommend Michael and Angel to Guid you in a private trek at the beautiful Huayhuash and beyond.

We went for a 6 days huayhuash trek Our guide mayquel, an experienced, motivated and with amazing vibes tour guide made the trek experience great The trek was organized perfectly, the team took care of everything we needed We got excellent equipment which made it easier to handle the cold weather. Angel is kind and professional. Even before we booked the Huayhuash tour through his agency, he was available for all our questions regarding different treks and hiking routes, that were unrelated to his agency. Angel always helped us even though he didn’t benefit from it - that is the kind of person he is. Eventually when we adjusted to the high altitude we booked the 5 day Huayhuash tour through Angel’s agency. First of all, our guide, Angel’s brother Mayquel was an amazing guide. His easy going vibe and perspective on life made the hiking very meaningful to us. He is funny and so caring, very professional and took care of everything so we could enjoy our time as much as possible. He was attentive to every request or question, always with solutions and a smile. Apart from that, the hiking equipment was perfect - the tents and the sleeping bags kept us warm at night with no problem (also there were cozy blankets as a bonus), the food was delicious and none of us was ever hungry. Three meals a day and that doesn’t even include the non-stopping snacks that the crew gave out during the hike. On the last day of the trek, the minivan that was assigned to pick us up from the trail broke down on the way, and unfortunately forced us to wait several hours for a different van. We all had hotel reservations and flights that were booked for the next morning, so we had to get to Lima on time. Angel and Mayquel dealt amazingly with the issue. They took responsibility and managed to book a different van for us and new bus tickets for us, so we could arrive to Lima on time. They could have told us it was our problem to deal with, but instead they made sure we wouldn’t be affected by the transportation issues. Angel was so worried he even met up with us at the bus station in Barranca just to apologize for the delay of the van and to make sure we are all well. To sum it all up, I highly recommend working with Angel and I hope to use his services again in the future!

This Trek was a one in a lifetime experience. The views where incredible and the guiding crew was very professional. My group where all English speakers, Angel has very good English and he could answer and explain us a lot of stuff about the nature there. The trek was so high class. They took care of everything! Tents, food, and all the logistics. We just had our small bags on us and the rest was all taken care of, we could focus all of our energy on having fun! I would 100% recommend doing this Trek and hiring this team. You will have the best experience you can imagine! Thank you Angel and your team!
