During this trek, you will live a true experience combined with nature in the midst of a multitude of snow-capped mountains see such as Jirishanca Grande (6,095 m), Jirishanca Chico (5,446 m), Yerupajá Grande (6,635 m) Yerupaja Chico (6,121 m), Siula Grande (6,344 m) and Siula Chico (5,680m). These snow-capped mountains make a perfect combination with the nuances of the mountains,the colors of the Mitucocha, Carhuacocha, Gagrajanca,Siulá, and Quesillococha lake, and the flora and fauna of the area.

ITINERARY

(Option 1) Day 1: Drive from Huaraz to Queropalca, trek Mitucocha Lake (4,270 m)

(Option 2) Day 1: Drive from Huánuco to Queropalca, trek Mitucocha Lake (4,270 m)


Trekking 3 hours

  • Today we will have our first glimpses of the mountain range, and we will pass through different towns. We will arrive at the town of Queropalca around 8:00 am, where our muleteers and donkeys will be waiting. After breakfast we will depart from Queropalca towards the Mitucocha lagoon located at 4,270 masl, the time to reach the first trekking camp will be approximately 3 hours. In the afternoon we will leave our camp towards the Niñacocha lagoon located at 4,430 masl, later we will ascend to the viewpoint from where we can have a better view of the Ninashanca, Rondoy and Jirishanca snow-capped mountains.
  • In the later afternoon, we will enjoy a hot coffee or coca tea while observing the landscapes.

Day 2: Trek to Carhuacocha Lake via Carhuac Pass (4,630 m)

Trekking 4 hours

• Today, we will depart from Mitucocha to Carhuacocha camp located at 4,138 meters above sea level. On this day, we will cross the Carhuac pass at 4,630 meters above sea level. Another alternative is to do the alpine route that lasts 5 hours, in this route, we will have privileged views. In the Carhuacocha camp, we will enjoy the impressive views of the most important snow-capped mountains such as Jirishanca Grande (6,095 m), Jirishanca Chico (5,446 m), Yerupajá Grande (6,635 m) Yerupaja Chico (6,121 m), Siula Grande (6,344 m) and Siula Chico (5,680 m).
• In the later afternoon, we will enjoy a hot coffee or coca tea while observing the landscapes.
• Overnight at the campsite.

Day 3: Trek from Carhuacocha Lake (4,138 m) to Siula Viewpoint, Carhuacocha


Trekking 6 hours (roundtrip)

• Today we trek for around 6 hours round trip. After breakfast, we will begin the trek to the Siula viewpoint along a well-marked path, walk near the Siulá snow-capped mountain, and appreciate its spectacular perennial glaciers. Then, we will walk through the Gagrajanca, Siulá, and Quesillococha lakes.
• In the later afternoon, we will enjoy a hot coffee or coca tea while observing the landscapes.
• Overnight at the campsite.

Trekking 3 hours

• Today we will walk downhill through beautiful grazing pampas and while we descend we
will find Andean potato crops and farmers harvesting. Arriving at the town of Queropalca
we will go to the hot water baths. After lunch, we go by private vehicle to move to the city
of Huánuco or Huaraz.
